Illumination

Original illuminations are small jewels, done with the finest of materials in the tradition of the old masters. Pigments such as Fra Angelico Lapis Lazuli, Red Sea Coral, Cinnabar, Malachite, Azurite and many others are hand ground and mixed with gum arabic for painting. A small illumination can take 50 hours or more and a large illumination can take weeks. Each design is very carefully planned out, knowing where each element and letter will be placed. Illuminations combined with calligraphic work have been important throughout history and many remain in museums and private collections today.

We are pleased to announce that Limited Edition Museum Prints
by Master Illuminator Jed Gibbons are now available through Acorn Arts.

Harvest Crittenden and Jed Gibbons frequently collaborate on teaching
'Illuminated Prayers' around the country, as well as private commissions
combining calligraphy, illustrations and illumination.
