Here the Transfiguration is depicted as to what John Paul II refers to as the “par excellence of the Mysteries of Light”, because it is the mystery which allows one to ”contemplate the face of Christ which is present in the Church today.”* it is surrounded by a border created by the other four new mysteries; The Baptism in the Jordan, The Wedding at Cana, The Proclamation of the Kingdom and the institution of the Eucharist.
The main scene takes place way up high on mount Tabor, where, Jesus is transfigured before the apostles. John, the closest disciple to Jesus, is the one who is closest to the vision, and is very engaged in contemplating the face of Christ.

Coming to the front of the scene, Peter, who has just previously been given the “keys to the kingdom”, is now the Church’s head, and he is pointing to Christ just as his successor continues to do for us today.
Together, Peter and James break out of the scene, leaving their time, to come into our present time. The two strong fisherman invitingly cast the rosary out of the scene in the same manner in which they would cast the nets off the side of their boat day after day. But this “net” is a “net of contemplation”, and as it cascades down, it swirls and envelopes each mystery, with the cross, its ballast, becoming anchored to the Institution of the Eucharist.
The rosary depicted in the scene is the white-pearlecsent rosary, bearing the coat of arms of John Paul II, which he gives to visitors and pilgrims. The rosary is the “net of contemplation” which allows us to “Put out into the deep”, so that we can plunge the depths of the mysteries and haul in the “treasures which are the wisdom and knowledge of Christ”.
