Place your mind before the mirror of eternity!
Place your soul in the brilliance of glory!
Place your heart in the figure of the divine substance
And transform your whole being into the image of the Godhead Itself through contemplation!
FROM THE 3RD LETTER OF ST. CLARE TO ST. AGNES OF PRAGUE
St . Clare, of ten shown holding the Blessed Sacrament on high which wards off an attack upon Assisi in which soldiers scaled
the walls of San Damiano spreading terror among the community, is shown here in the much more loving, intimate relationship that she had with the Blessed Sacrament through her method of prayer which is to “Place your mind before the mirror of eternity”. Embracing the Blessed Sacrament, Clare places her mind before the mirror which, is the transfigured Christ present in the Blessed Sacrament .

She herself is then transformed into a mirror which now reflects Christ to others and thus becomes what St . Paul speaks of when he says; “All of us, then reflect the glory of the Lord with uncovered faces; and that same glory, coming from the Lord, who is the Spirit, transforms us into His likeness in an ever greater degree of glory.” 2 Cor 3:18 By following the example of Clare, we too can be transformed into mirrors that reflect the image of Christ to all those around us in our daily lives; and then, one day when we come before the Father, and he gazes upon our soul, the image He will see reflecting back to Him will not be our own but that of His Son. The contemplative scene is surrounded by some of the things from Clare’s previous life in the secular world which, are often admired in an earthly mirror; the rich pearl-brochade fabrics worn by her in her father’s palace, represented here by the Italian White Vine border, and her long blond hair that was cut by St. Francis when she secretly left home to be installed in the Franciscan habit. The Feast of St Clare is August 11.
