For the first time anywhere, the complete beginning Spencerian Script course is being offered online by 2 MASTER PENMAN! Michael Sull and Harvest Crittenden, Co-Directors of the Spencerian Saga have teamed up to bring you this unique opportunity.

The nature of this program is very special. Designed for everyone who has an interest in learning or bettering their proficiency in vintage penmanship, this Spencerian online class is open to persons of all skill levels, from beginner to advanced. Comprehensive instruction is given in Spencerian Script and Off-Hand Flourishing will be introduced.

Here's a little of what you can expect: An Introduction to 'The Golden Age of Penmanship' Tools and equipment, an overview The Principals of Script and Ornamental Penmanship How to practice productively The basic forms The lower case letters The elements of form for capital letters The capital letters with alternatives The nature of curves for off-hand flourishing Simple cartouches (small contained designs) Adding color to your work and so much more....

Step by step we will go through the program at an easy but steady pace. A new lesson will be posted every Wednesday starting January 11, 2012 and ending March 28, 2012. There will be 12 lessons in all. Each Wednesday there will be new worksheets available for you to download with an instructional video. You may watch the video at any time that is convenient for you, there is no need to be in class at an exact time. Sounds like a pajama party to me! Homework will be given each week and we ask for a commitment of 1/2 hour of practice at least 4 days a week. It is far better to practice for 1/2 hour each day than do all your practicing on the weekends. Slow and steady builds up muscle memory- but that's just one of the things we'll be covering. The lessons will remain posted for the entire class, so if you need to miss a week you will be able to make it up at your own pace.


Here's the great part...
what makes this program truly unique is no more practicing for hours and hours and not knowing if you are lettering correctly! Each week you are invited to post your work to the classroom forum. You can do this by scanning your work and uploading it, or by taking a picture and uploading it. Each week Michael or Harvest will look your work and make suggestions on areas that can be improved. It's like having us look over your shoulder and offering critiques and encouragement in your ear. For those of you who might be too shy to post your work for others to see may mail it in to us for corrections. Please know that the response time will be slowed down considerably if you do, but we understand. But honestly, we all learn from each other's efforts and mistakes as well.

The forum is an online place where you can ask questions, offer support and encouragement to each other, and commiserate about the one or two letters that just don't seem to come easily. Michael or I will be checking the forum board each day and reponding to any questions that arise.
